The ‘90s were a golden age for cinema. The era gave us classic dramas, inventive thrillers, nightmarish horrors, and some of the best comedies to ever grace the silver screen. Some say ‘90s movies can’t be topped — but some people still tried to anyway.

When a movie is a total classic, it’s pretty tempting to make another one and keep the story going. Sequels mean more movie theaters filled, more merchandise sold, and more happy fans — in theory. But more often than not, sequels are so far from even comparing to their original that they can sort of tarnish their predecessor’s reputation. When a film’s that good, it’s a hard act to follow.

Some sequels are bad, some are good, and some are so bad that they’re great. So corny, overdramatic, or bonkers that they actually become classics in their own right. And the ‘90s were full of them.
