According to Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory of Intelligence, there are three different types of intelligence: practical intelligence, creative intelligence, and analytical intelligence. Let’s break them down, shall we?
Practical intelligence is what Sternberg called “one’s ability to successfully interact with the everyday world”. It has to do with how well people are able to adapt to their environment and do what they have to do to succeed in that environment. Creative intelligence is how well a person is able to use the knowledge they already have to come up with new ways to cope with new situations. And lastly, analytical intelligence is basically equivalent to academic intelligence, aka book smarts. If you succeeded in math and science when you were in school and did well on standardized tests, you probably have a high level of analytical intelligence.
