From massive prehistoric looking beasts to tiny, blobby lumps that have been named the ugliest creatures in the world, the deep sea is home to some truly bizarre and terrifying life forms.

Pull out your scuba gear and get ready to dive down deep. We’re heading into the darkest trenches of the open ocean to see what kinds of weird creatures make their homes in the furthest reaches of the ocean. Just make sure you’re not grossed out by lots of teeth, frightened of very large jaws, or unnerved by completely boneless fish because it turns out those are really common when you’re chilling on the ocean floor.
