They became convinced that the Devil had possessed the bodies of women, children (and even some men) to carry out evil actions on the innocent, devout Puritans. Approximately 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft for a variety of reasons — most of which violated any number of the extremely strict Puritan ideals. If, after the “evidence” against them found them to be guilty, these “witches” were executed, often horribly… Needless to say, it was not considered very cool to be a witch during that time.
